Misdiagnoses
– It's never too late
One of the most important requirements at the beginning of the diagnosis of any disease is the confirmation of the fact that the diagnosis has been correct or not. This is because; whatever be the disease, there is always a kind of mental trauma that comes to be associated with it. And this is something that you would not want to suffer just because the medic made a mistake, would you? And although one should not be overly suspicious every time some thing comes along, it would definitely not hurt to take a second opinion in such cases.
At the same time, it is important to remember that the possibility of a misdiagnoses should not be taken as an excuse to avoid the necessary medical procedures and operations. And when it comes to a disease like herpes, which along with the physical aspects, causes a lot of pain mentally too, one should be prudent but also remember the outcome of a late action. Most of the times, although people are logically convinced that they have the disease, just out of the psychological fear, they tend to postpone the next visit to the doctor, hoping against hope, that somehow, magically the virus would vanish.
Understand your condition
The cases and frequency of errors of misdiagnoses on the part of the meds range from just 1-3 % for some diseases like Cancer to even 20 - 40 % for the emergencies and the ICU cases. All these facts are though merely numbers that provide a generalized picture of the medical world. And although the cases of misdiagnoses in herpes are not all that uncommon, over cautiousness can sometimes be the fall of many a one. One search and you would come across numerous instances of the people who had been diagnosed with herpes and after continuing on the medication for years, they were suddenly told by the doctor that they had never had the disease in the first place.
As with any other disease or medical ailment, your biggest strength is always going to be knowledge. If you are well informed about herpes and the various aspects that go along with the patients of the disease, regardless of the fact that whether you really have herpes or you have been misdiagnosed, you would be able to withstand the situation a lot better than others in your position.
Do not fear!
So, if at any time you have the slightest doubt about your condition, please do visit your doctor and discuss the same with him/her immediately. Remember, misdiagnoses too can be of various types. It need not be a complete misdiagnoses on the part of the doctor. Even a partial misdiagnoses can be equally dangerous as a complete one. The primary problem with herpes patients is that they are often unable to overcome the inhibitions that they develop over time because of the disease.
